Use of test
This test assesses a up to 24 highly variable regions of the genetic code between two or more individuals to test for specific biological relationships.
The laboratory will provide an interpretation of the results. For maternity, paternity, Y-Chromosome testing the relationship with be reported to be EXCLUDED or NOT EXCLUDED (conclusive results). For the other relationship testing it is reported on a likelihood scale.
This kind of testing requires the explicit consent of all parties from whom samples are collected. The collection of a sample for any form of genetic testing without consent may be illegal.
Analysis of the number of repeats in highly variable 'short tandem repeats' located at multiple points in the genetic code.
Requesting the test
This test is requested by private application rather than through a medical practitioner. The psychological, ethical, and legal consequences that may arise from the test result should be considered before applying for this test. The collection requirements for this test will vary depending on the purpose of testing. If the test is required for legal purposes, the collection requirements are more stringent than if the test does not need to fulfil these requirements.
