Use of test

Purpose:

This test assesses up to 24 highly variable regions of the genetic code between two or more individuals to test for specific biological relationships. Federal government agencies may ask an applicant or sponsor for confirmation of a biological relationship with a person seeking a visa, citizenship by descent or entry to Australia.

Utility:

This test can potentially confirm or refute the claimed specific biological relationship between two or more people.

Ethical considerations:

This kid of test requires the explicit consent of all parties from whom samples are collected. The collection of a sample for any form of genetic testing without consent may be illegal.

Methodology:

Analysis of the number of repeats in highly variable 'short tandem repeats' located at multiple points in the genetic code.
