Use of test

Purpose:

This test assesses up to 24 variable regions of the genetic code between two samples to determine whether they are from the same person (a match) of if they are not from the same person (a mismatch).

Utility:

This test can be used to determine if one or more samples are from the same person. This can assist laboratories in accurately assessing their quality systems, or accurately resolve uncertainty regarding the identification of a tissue sample.

Ethical considerations:

This test must be referred or ordered by a medical practitioner or pathologist.

Methodology:

Analysis of the number of repeats in highly variable 'short tandem repeats' located at multiple points in the genetic code.

Sample required:

At least two samples are required, for example, fixed or fresh tissue, buccal swab, blood sample, bloodspot.
