We were pleased to have been the leader in bringing the Harmony® Prenatal Test into Australia in 2015. Harmony has served hundreds of thousands of pregnant women well, providing accurate and timely information.
Following a thorough review in 2020, Sonic Genetics introduced a second test method, VeriSeq NIPT Solution v2. With the successful integration and acceptance of VeriSeq NIPT, Sonic Genetics wishes to advise that the VeriSeq NIPT is replacing Harmony. This decision reflects a number of factors, including the challenges of assured supply of reagents and plasticware during the pandemic, and staffing matters that have recently been impacted by COVID-19.
Effective Wednesday 8 December 2021, samples received by our NIPT laboratories will be analysed using the VeriSeq platform, and screening for the 22q11.2 microdeletion will no longer be available. The current request form may continue to be used, as the requesting, payment and reporting processes for the common trisomies, fetal sex and sex chromosome aneuploidy will remain the same, however, requests for 22q screening will not be actioned. To avoid disappointment, we recommended that samples for 22q11.2 be collected no later than Friday 3 December 2021. Please note, if a patient has already paid for that option, a refund will be provided.
NIPT is performed in our accredited Australian laboratories, supervised by onsite genetic pathologists. We offer free genetic counselling for high-risk patients and our genetic pathologists are available to consult with you regarding your patient’s results.
As always, our priority is to provide you with tests of high quality and utility. We will continue to review new methods which have the potential to improve the quality, timeliness or scope of NIPT in assessing fetal growth and health.
