New England Journal of Medicine Study
The New England Journal of Medicine (NEJM) is one of the most prestigious medical journals internationally. A landmark study published in this journal in 2015 showed that non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) delivers unsurpassed accuracy for the general pregnancy population. In the first and only blinded prospective study of its kind, NIPT proved superior to traditional first trimester screening for the detection of trisomy 21 (Down syndrome).
Nearly 19,000 women, regardless of age or risk, were enrolled in this unique study that compared the performance of two prenatal tests. The results, published recently in the New England Journal of Medicine, showed that non-invasive prenatal testing (NIPT) significantly outperforms the combination of biochemical and ultrasound screening for trisomy 21.
The test used in this study was the Harmony Prenatal Test.
